A native of New Orleans, Ms. Sandra Epton studied her craft primarily at the New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts but also under the supervision of professional artists around the USA and Internationally. While she is well known for her work with the human figure, her many creations also include abstract compositions, portraits and natural subjects. In her 20+ years of Life Drawing, she has has studied with Auseklis Ozols, founder of NOAFA, in addition to Kathy Grego and Carol Peebles. Other instructors include painting the figure in watercolor with Nina Fritz of Pensacola, Naomi Campbell with the Art Students League of New York, and Bob Burridge, Ocean Springs Art Association.
She has traveled to Europe with the Arts Students League of New York for drawing instruction and art studies in Florence and spend a two-week residency painting and drawing at the International School of Painting, Drawing and Sculpture in Umbria, Italy. Other studies include Audrey Phillips at the Atlantic Center of the Arts, New Smyrna Beach, Florida, expressive abstract painting, and Vickie Marsango, PaintspaceNola.
She is the 2016 recipient of the Nell Tilton Facility Award for Abstract Painting, New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts.
Ms. Epton monitored for the Life Drawing Studio at NOAFA for over 12 years. Her responsibility was obtaining the models for the drawing session, handling the overall conduct of group about their interaction with the models, seeing to the financial business of the session. She has presented workshops on Gesture drawing for the Pass Christian Art Association as well as The Arts, Hancock County. Member: The Arts, Hancock County, BSL. MS.
