Hayley Roussel is a New Orleans-based contemporary painter whose work is inspired by the landscapes, culture, and spirit of the Gulf South. Her work is born of a lifelong appreciation for the beauty, resilience, and character of the Southern landscapes she calls home. Drawing from the wetlands of Louisiana, the historic architecture of New Orleans, native wildlife, and the ever-changing light of the Gulf Coast, she creates vibrant paintings that explore the connection between memory, place, and emotion. With deep roots in South Louisiana and family ties to rural Mississippi, Hayley finds continual inspiration in the diverse environments of the region, from moss-draped oaks and winding bayous to the pine forests, open fields, and quiet backroads of southwest Mississippi.
Working in expressive color and layered abstraction, Hayley seeks to capture not what a place looks like, but what it feels like to experience it. Her paintings reflect the unique rhythm of the Gulf Coast, where land, water, history, and culture are deeply intertwined. Through energetic brushwork and luminous palettes, familiar scenes become visual poems that invite viewers to reconnect with their own memories of home, travel, and belonging.
Hayley earned her BFA in Painting and Drawing from Louisiana State University and has participated in public art projects, exhibitions, and live painting events throughout the region. Her work is held in private collections across the U.S. and beyond. She lives and works in New Orleans, where the rich intersection of culture, nature, and storytelling continues to shape her artistic practice.
