Born in Gulfport, MS, thirty-six year old artist Adam Cook’s distinct style is unmistakable. It is colorfully candid and depicts his pure love for music, film, and written word. From the time the artist was four years old, he drew incessantly and filled countless notebooks with drawings, poetry, and music. He spent his youth listening to 60’s rock, R&B, and jazz as well as encountering Keith Haring’s art for the first time on Sesame Street which sparked his creative curiosity.
Adam began his artistic career in Mississippi by creating work on pieces of metal and wood found on the streets in his local neighborhood and using charcoal and paint to leave his mark for the public to enjoy. His influences include a vast range of artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Georgia O’Keeffe, Willem de Kooning, Cy Twombly, Andy Warhol, and so many more. You can currently catch him at Krog Tunnel in Atlanta painting new shapes and forms on a larger scale.
His past work includes ten murals for the public of the Mississippi Gulf Coast, paintings for the Beaumont Children’s museum, murals for his hometown church, local restaurants, MCM Elegante Hotel, as well as private and public collections in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada and Geneva, Switzerland. Among his private collectors are Capitol Records recording artist, Walker Hayes and Christophe de Menil, daughter of John de Menil, the founding president of the International Foundation for Art Research in New York and Dominique de Menil , the founder of the Menil Collection in Houston, TX. Adam’s current work consists of candidly drawn “creatures” with big, gnashing teeth and a happy and comical personality that brings a spirit of fun and free-spirited creativity. Adam is available for commissions, you can email him with your ideas and he will respond with pricing and availability.
